The Trojan War lasted for ten years. The Greeks could not breach the walls of Troy so the battle was mainly fought just outside the walls. Great heroes like Achilles fought and died in this war. After these ten years the Greeks came up with a plan. The Greek soldiers built a huge wooden horse with a hollow stomach and a trapped door. They sent some soldiers to stay in the stomach of the horse for the plan. The other Greek soldiers packed up camp and sailed behind a huge rock so it would look like they were gone. They left the horse and one soldier behind. When the Trojans saw that the Greek soldiers had gone they called an end to the war. But, then the Trojans saw a Greek soldier hiding in the bushes. The Trojans told him to come out and explain himself. The soldier said that the Greek army surrendered and he was left there to tell them that. The Greek soldier also said that the Greeks left the massive wooden horse as a gift for Troy. Troy took it as a symbol of their victory. They gathered their strongest men to pull the horse inside the walls. The Greek soldier hid back in the bushes. The Trojans danced and celebrated their victory. They honored Nike and Athena. They feasted and partied for three nights. When every single Trojan soldier was to drunk or hungover to fight the Greeks executed the main part of their plan. The lone Greek soldier climbed a tree and signaled for the greek ships to come in to dock. The Greek soldiers in the horse stealthily jumped from the stomach of the horse as not to wake any Trojans they went and opened the gates of Troy. The Greek soldiers razed the city of Troy they slaughtered every Trojan man and took the women for wives. The city was razed to the ground.
