The Greek Gods often had trouble deciding wether they should side with the Trojans or the Greeks. For this particular war the gods were divided into sides because of promises and their virtues. The gods that chose sides in this battle were Hera, Athena, Ares, and even sweet soft Aphrodite. Hera sided with the Greeks because she was still fuming over the fact that Paris did not choose her as the fairest goddess. Athena was also a little bit annoyed at Paris for choosing another goddess over herself. Ares only fought where the battle was hot and fiery and he did not care which side would win but when he got wounded he would howl and scare both sides. Aphrodite fought beside the Trojans because she promised Helen to Paris. Aphrodite was also wounded and Zeus could not bear to see Aphrodite hurt. Zeus also thought that the mortals should decide the outcome for himself. So he commanded the other gods to sit on the walls of Troy and watch the battle.
